I think a hybrid of both systems with the options to customize the controls would be the best idea, M&B did a good job but it feels a little stiff sometimes. Would be nice to see people using shields, too. This would make combat much, much more tactical and skill-based. This wouldn't require any more network traffic than the current system does, it's mostly just a control structure change. This way people could block as they do now to take 50% less damage or so even if they don't parry in the right direction (which would absorb all damage).įor those who say it can't be done in an MMO, you're very wrong.

When blocking, reduce damage taken even if it's not a successful parry (blocking in the right direction). To make things a little easier for lagging people, you could mix some of the current MO combat in.Movement speed would need to be reduced in combat, but I think that might be a good idea anyway. Each block made with a shield reduces durability until it breaks, so you can't just block forever. This also makes it a bit easier for people with higher pings. When holding block with your shield equipped, you block attacks from all directions as long as they're in front of you. Shields allow you to block more easily, although you can't do as much damage as you're forced to use a one-hander.If he's thrusting, you move the mouse down and right click, and so forth. If you do it in time, you parry and take no damage. If you see the guy swinging at you from your right (so he's swinging left on his end) you move the mouse to the right and right click. If you parry an attack, it absorbs all damage.

Later on there would be room for overhead swings by moving the mouse up. Moving the mouse down and clicking thrusts, instead of using alt. So dragging the mouse to the left and then clicking would swing from your left. Instead of choosing attack direction with the strafe keys, you move your mouse slightly in the direction you want to attack from before you click.Personally, I think it's perfect in almost every way why not use what has already been proven to work well?Īnyway, for those who haven't played M&B (especially Warband) the controls work like this: There have been loads of posts about Mount & Blade Warband's combat controls, but I just wanted to put it into the form of a poll so that we could get a clearer idea of whether or not people like the system.
